A novela continua, se não fosse o empenho militar extremo dos EUA no Iraque e arredores, talvez tivessemos a assistir ao grito do guerreiro por parte dos Neo-Cons. Estes, quando do incidente com o avião espião escreveram insistentemente que a guerra com a China era inevitável. Algo completamente absurdo dado o pragmatismo demonstrado pelos Chineses em todos os domínios.
O facto de alguns estarem tão calados, perante a ameaça explícita chinesa, faz transparecer a fragilidade táctica e estratégica em que os EUA se colocaram.
Mas se o "preço" da guerra do Iraque for evitar um conflito com a China por uma questão que só a eles lhe diz respeito, talvez seja o caso de uma boa " unintended consequence".
E depois que princípios estão em jogo que valham um conflito aberto do "Ocidente" com a China por causa de um seu ancestral território? o Direito de Secessão por referendo? A defesa no domínio dos princípios parece-me bem, mas será mesmo isso que querem?
E quem quer compreender a história e forma de ser dos Chineses?
Sascha Matuszak: A friend and successful businessman with extensive dealings with Taiwanese explained it to me this way:
"We Chinese have a history of 5000 years. For Americans, with only a history of 200 years, it may be difficult to understand our mindset. In America, a son is encouraged to leave the home early and lead an independent life away from the family. Not so in China, a son must respect the wishes of his family."
And so the errant son with his new buddies on the other side of the tracks (or ocean) will eventually have to return home and reconcile himself with his parents. This view may represent the view of many Mainlanders.
