Libertarians

Eu diria que Ludwig von Mises e F.A. Hayek são antecedentes clássicos, mas os grandes responsáveis pelo novo movimento "libertarian" serão Ayn Rand(esta rejeitando a classificação), Murray Rothbard, and Milton Friedman (este, não pela sua obra académica, mas pelos seus livros de divulgação que contêm um genuino espirito libertarian, de resto, assumido como tal pelo próprio).

A obra mais completa é em minha opinião a de Murray N. Rothbard, bastando para isso comparar quer a sua bibliografia quer toda a sua actividade de intervenção (Jeffrey Tucker "Rothbard wrote for the newspapers from his earliest student years until his death (his last article was an attack on Newt Gingrich as a statist sellout)").Com facilidade se encontra a sua análise crítica ao neo-conservadorismo desde os tempos em que este nascia no Partido Democrata, antecipando todo o caminho percorrido por estes já depois da sua morte (passando pelo Kosovo e depois o Iraque).

Como movimento com uma estrutura formal ideológico, estratégico e doutrinal, é a este que se deve uma definição clara das suas linhas gerais mas também os detalhes. Filosofia, economia, história, e ainda intervenção política, sobre todos os temas e toda a actualidade do dia a dia (pelo caminho, fundador do Libertarian Party e do Cato Institute).

Quanto ao futuro, no seu livro que práticamente funda formalmente o movimento "For a New Liberty", 1973:
"In the broadest and longest-run sense, libertarianism will win eventually because it and only it is compatible with the nature of man and of the world. Only liberty can achieve man's prosperity, fulfillment, and happiness. In short, libertarianism will win because it is true, because it is the correct policy for mankind, and truth will eventually out. . . . We now have that systematic theory; we come, fully armed with our knowledge, prepared to bring our message and to capture the imagination of all groups and strands in the population. All other theories and systems have clearly failed: socialism is in retreat everywhere . . . ; liberalism has bogged us down in a host of insoluble problems; conservatism has nothing to offer but sterile defense of the status quo. Liberty has never been fully tried in the modern world; libertarians now propose to fulfill the American dream and the world dream of liberty and prosperity for all mankind."
