O pensamento Jacobino ("We will give you liberty, you want it or not") à direita - quem diria que (na direita) os iriamos ter de aturar no séc. 21 e ainda por cima vindos do lado de lá do Atlântico. Um espécie de fusão da imposição universal de valores (Ah, mas estes são os valores certos - dirão muitos!) e optimismo na capacidade da transformação social da esquerda com o militarismo e de um nacionalismo sem nação à direita - e ainda alguns aspectos de uma nova "civil religion" - a acção do Estado (e do seu expoente no "Império da Liberdade", o maior e mais poderoso de todos os Estados) como instrumento de um Deus numa missão messiânica pelo bem para acabar com todo o mal.
PS: os Liberais deviam perceber o problema que é conjugar "o maior poder" e "liberdade" na mesma frase: "as the greatest power on the face of the Earth, we have an obligation to help the spread of freedom".
