O caso das ADM no Iraque revela como temos de ser nós, individualmente, a fazer o nossos próprio julgamento, a fazer a nossa própria investigação e reflexão, sobre a busca da verdade e dando um peso muito relativo quanto às verdades oficiais, por reputadas agências, reputados políticos, reputados analistas, etc.
A intervenção de que alguns se socorrem para lembrar o óbvio: a actual política norte-americana começou já com Clinton (e com William Kristoll a ameaçar mudar para o partido democrata se os Republicanos não o apoiassem no Kosovo). Mas estes esquecem-se que o problema está precisamente aí. A direita conservadora e liberal incorporou o "fatal conceipt" da esquerda com o uso da capacidade de defesa militar para objectivos confusos, ideológicos, para assuntos dos outros, para o intervencionismo social em massa. E aqui para ir defender os separatistas muçulmanos albaneses (e com ligações a Bin Laden). E o resultado é uma ocupação sem fim de vista. O inicio do envolvimento da Nato em assuntos que não são de defesa territorial. E a destruição de centenas igrejas cristãs ortodoxas, das mais antigas da Europa. E depois os julgamentos.
No assunto do Kosovo como em muitos outros, a memória colectiva entra em amnésia selectiva que faz com que ninguém queira realmente saber o que aconteceu e o que vai acontecendo. No nosso cérebro temos uma gaveta já fechada que diz: algo se passava, fomos lá (bombardear um pais durante 72 dias dia e noite), agora está tudo bem.
Judge's Resignation Puts Milosevic Trial in Doubt
"Now, more than two years after it began, the war crimes tribunal of Slobodan Milosevic may have to be restarted after the presiding judge resigned.
The trial was plunged into uncertainty yesterday after Richard May’s resignation on health grounds raised speculation that the former Yugoslav president could demand a new trial.
Milosevic, who is charged with genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Balkans in the 1990s, could call on the Hague tribunal to abort the trial and start afresh, one of his legal advisers said. "

it happens, this week marked the end of the Prosecution's case against Slobodan Milosevic. Del Ponte predictably claimed victory, telling AFP: "We have succeeded in showing the responsibility of Milosevic." After two years of continual embarrassments and bitter defeats, the statement has all the ring of wishful thinking, though the press took it at face value. In fact, Del Ponte and her fellow Inquisitors have done nothing of the sort.
Writing in The Guardian last Thursday, commentator Neil Clark argued that "things have gone horribly wrong for Ms. Del Ponte":
"…not only has the prosecution signally failed to prove Milosevic's personal responsibility for atrocities committed on the ground, the nature and extent of the atrocities themselves has also been called into question."
It is obvious, he says, that the Prosecution has been "working backwards – making charges and then trying to find evidence."
